Middle School @ Cornerstone

The Middle School (grades 6-8) is one of our most popular programs at Cornerstone. Our school is known as a safe place that uses traditional approaches to see great success with our students. Below are two key identities of our middle school that our parents note as successful:

Our Middle School is Small and Safe

At Cornerstone we keep everything focused on small and effective classrooms and shared spaces. In order to prevent bullying and other inappropriate activities, we ensure that students stay under the tutelage of effective educators that deal with classes that are small. We also ensure that students are always monitored and that teachers don’t ignore inappropriate behavior. When students do report behavior that is inappropriate, we do not ignore it and deal with it according to our handbook.

Our Middle School Math Program is Effective for All Students

Building on the education we offer in our Elementary program, our Middle School math program has made strong improvements for our students. Our philosophy is that an effective mathematics program is simple, consistent and individualized.

We use simple, traditional mathematics that our students and our parents understand. We don’t teach using Common Core techniques that lead to confusion and a lack of basic skills.

We also believe in the power of consistency. Our students learn new skills each day and review them with home work each night.

We also believe that students learn math at various rates. We employ online, individualized education to ensure that students  can build skills that they personally need.

Using these techniques, many students have made vast improvements in their mathematics skills while at Cornerstone.
